At TM Antlers, we’re proud to offer naturally shed deer and elk antlers from the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Every season our antler tracking pup, Trigger Moose, helps walk us through the open forests of the PNW looking for the first signs of elk and deer. With his help, every antler is collected sustainably and hand-crafted into a healthy, long-lasting chew your dog will love.
But how do you know which antler is right for your dog? Choosing the correct size and chew strength is important for your dog’s safety, their enjoyment, and to make your antler last as long as possible.
This guide will make it easy.
Why Size Matters
Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, and so do antlers. A chew that’s too small can be a choking hazard for a big dog, while a chew that’s too large can be tough for a small pup to enjoy. That’s why choosing the right size means:
-
Better chewing comfort
-
Safer chewing experience
-
Longer-lasting antlers
Why Chewing Strength Matters
Some dogs are light nibblers, while others are full-on power chewers. In our experience, it’s often best to start your dog off with a good set of split antlers to see their initial reaction and desire for the chew. To help you choose, we’ve grouped antlers into Light, Moderate, and Heavy Chewer categories:
-
Light Chewers: Puppies, older dogs, or dogs that chew gently. Split antlers are great here because they expose the soft marrow.
-
Moderate Chewers: Most adult dogs fall here. A mix of split and whole antlers works well.
-
Heavy Chewers: These are the dogs that go to work on their chews! Whole antlers are best for durability.
